Overview
StoreViewer licenses are tied to a specific device. Before you can activate on a new Mac, you need to deactivate on your old one to free up the seat. This article covers both scenarios — moving from a Mac you still have access to, and replacing a Mac you can no longer use.
If you still have access to your old Mac
Step 1 — Deactivate on your old Mac
- Open StoreViewer on your old Mac
- Go to Settings → License
- Click Deactivate
- Confirm when prompted
Your license seat is now free. StoreViewer will still be installed on the old Mac but will require reactivation to use.
Step 2 — Install StoreViewer on your new Mac
Download the latest version of StoreViewer from your purchase confirmation email or from storeviewer.app/download. Choose the correct build for your Mac:
- Apple Silicon — M1, M2, M3, or M4 chip
- Intel — older Intel-based Mac
If you're not sure which chip your Mac has, go to Apple menu → About This Mac.
Step 3 — Activate on your new Mac
Open StoreViewer on your new Mac. When prompted, paste your license key and click Activate. Your license will be tied to the new device.
Step 4 — Restore your workspace settings (optional)
Your workspace configuration — regions, URLs, layout, and saved profiles — is stored locally in a file called workspace.json. If you want to carry your settings across to the new Mac:
- On your old Mac, open Finder and press ⌘⇧G to open the Go to Folder dialog
- Paste this path:
~/Library/Application Support/StoreViewer/ - Copy
workspace.jsonto a USB drive, AirDrop it, or send it to yourself - On your new Mac, navigate to the same folder path and replace the existing
workspace.jsonwith your copy - Restart StoreViewer — your regions and profiles will be restored
If you skip this step, you'll just need to re-enter your regions manually on the new Mac. It only takes a few minutes.
If you no longer have access to your old Mac
If your old Mac has been lost, stolen, sold, or is otherwise inaccessible, you won't be able to deactivate through the app. Email us at sales [at] storeviewer.app with:
- The email address you used to purchase StoreViewer
- A brief note explaining the situation
We'll release the activation on your old device so you can activate on your new one. We aim to respond within one business day.
Team license holders
If you're on the StoreViewer Team License (up to 10 devices), you have additional seats available and may not need to deactivate before adding a new device — simply install and activate on the new Mac. If you've reached the 10-device limit and need to free up a seat, follow the same deactivation steps above on whichever device is no longer in use.
